Windows Server 2008 is almost ready and IIS 7.0 with it.
Being IIS7 the Microsoft most ambitious Web server to date there are a lot of expectations on it. And indeed it is not surprising how many new features have been built on it including those that directly benefit the hosting community.
IIS7 will indeed reduce total cost of ownership, improve manageability and create new business opportunities.
A lot, really a lot.
As an hoster you can easily sandbox thousands of Web sites on a single server and leverage the new file-based configuration to Xcopy deployment of sites and servers.
You can also administer your server remotely allowing both site owners and developers to control delegated web site features. Diagnostic information are also available through Runtime Status and Control APIs.
These features and its extensible and modular architecture will help hosters quickly bring new features to market.
What about performance?... The new IIS 7.0 has shown in the beta testing phase a world class performance level and great realibility of ASP, ASP.NET and PHP applications.
Furthermore the long awaited Secure FTP (FTP over Secure Sockets Layer ) is now available, not to mention the FTP user isolation and more.
